The People We Keep by Allison Larkin

April is dealt a terrible hand from the beginning of her life

Her dad is a less than desired parent

They live in a motorhome that doesn't have a motor, and sometimes her dad doesn't even come home - choosing to stay with his new girlfriend

Lucy will "borrow" her neighbors car and go play gigs at a local bar - she's great on the guitar and vocals

Her dad comes home, they have a huge fight and he breaks her guitar. She packs up her stuff, steals his car and leaves.

She arrives in Ithaca. Gets a job at a diner after telling them she's 19 (currently only 16) and parks her car at a campground, where she will sleep for a few nights as the campground is closing

She meets customer Adam who convinces her to come stay with him after finding out she's staying in her car. She doesn't understand why he's doing this, until he tells her that he used to be homeless

When someone finds out she's only 16 and threatens to tell everyone, April packs up and leaves again, hitting bars all along the coast to make money.

She meets Robert, Ethan and Justin all along the way, the people she "keeps"

She ends up pregnant and heads home because the contact she has with home has told her her dad isn't well.

By the time she gets there, it's too late but they beg her to stay.

She has the baby and a family that she's been needing her whole life

I so enjoyed this book, which is unusual when everyone else loves the book.
