Niki is careful
She lives at home with her mom and dad
She's not married at 29 and is the good daughter, unlike her sister
When she's laid off, she doesn't know what to do with her life
Her parents fix her up with a family friends son, who's a doctor
She decides to travel to India for her best friend from college, Diya's wedding.
When she gets there, she immediately feels at home, she loves Diya's family as she met them in college when they came to visit
She meets Sam, who she's immediately attracted too but isn't starting something with as she's not staying in India and she has Raj back in the states, if she decides that's what she wants
After the wedding and Diwali, Niki is supposed to go to Punjab to meet other family and Diya and some of her friends are going on honeymoon together
Sam convinces Niki to come with them, now they will all be paired up, and she can stay with him at his mom's house - who happens to love Niki just from meeting her. She's very new world, allows them to stay in the same room together among other things
Sam's father shows up and things go awry.
Sam is heading back to London and since Niki doesn't have anything to do she said she will go there with him - which he refutes and sends her back to Seattle broken hearted
Soon Sam comes to his senses and heads to Seattle to win her back!
